Eastern Connecticut Football Officials
Ed was born and raised in New London,
graduating from NLHS in 1968 where he
played football his freshman and senior
years. He also played some semi-pro ball
for the Willimantic Wreckers in the fall of
1968.
After high school Ed enlisted in the United
States Air Force where he received his
training as a firefighter. During his tour of
duty in Europe, Ed played tight end for the
military base’s team competing against
other military bases.
After his discharge Ed started his long
career as a firefighter at the Sub Base New
London. He retired as a Deputy Chief in
2004.
Ed’s officiating career began with the
Eastern Connecticut Board of Approved
Football Officials in 1992. During his time as
a member of the ECBAFO Ed served as
Secretary/Treasurer, 2nd VP, 1st VP and
President of the board. He was also a
member of the Better Officiating Committee
and Executive Board.
Ed was selected to officiate as either a wing
official or an umpire in 14 state playoff games
during his career. Five of these games were
CIAC finals.
Ed served for several years on the CFOA
Board of Directors and was an instrumental
member of the Insurance Committee,
working as the liaison between the CFOA
and the insurance carrier.
In retirement Ed enjoys his time on the
water whether he is shuttling residents
between New London and Fishers Island or at
his residence in Florida.
Along with his brother Stephen, Ed’s family
includes his daughter Leza, grandson
Zachary, and his deceased son Stephen.
